At the Currents’ Edge is a site-specific video projection, documented in video and photographs, created in the coastal village of Skagaströnd, Iceland for its 2022 Light Up Festival. Inspired by the 2021 scientific observations that the Gulf Stream is slowing down, At the Currents’ Edge is a hybrid watercolor-animation and experimental video collage that echoes the forms of the ocean’s gyres, meanders, eddies, and streams. While scientists are not certain if climate change or other forces are slowing the Gulf Stream, these changes could dramatically effect the climate and marine populations. The video is projected onto a found brass boat propeller at Skagaströnd’s coast, looking west over a fjord leading to the Atlantic.
